Using a similar technique I have become the World's most accurate dart marksman. I've consecutively thrown over 1000 darts from a distance of 5 meters and hit the bullseye dead center each time. No kidding!

My secret? I throw the dart at a wall, then go up and draw the target around it. Works perfectly every time!

See?

Yes the codes that you have shown above are a laugh indeed.

But not to forget that if there are any true codes, and if the Satan fellow does exist, then he will do his thing and point everyone in the wrong direction before the true codes are actually found.

Of course these codes will also not be found in yesterdays Torah because that is just too darn easy. Only a fool will be looking there. But in general everybody forgets to bring Satan's art of deception into the picture.

No, you need to use your noodle.

Brian,
My religious background is nonexistent. I don't believe in any religion, and I don't believe that "god" is any more real than Luke Skywalker or Rumpelstiltskin.

I see that you're very passionate about your work, which is admirable. Allow me, however, to respond to some of your points:

First, can you define what you mean by "breaking CP"? And also what you mean by "statical science"? I'm not familiar with either of these terms.
<blockquote>But if I have my code base from 1990, and a major event happens tomorrow, it will be in there.</blockquote>
But that's my point... you'll find the event in your codes only <em>after</em> it happens. Have your codes ever <em>actually predicted</em> an event before it occurred? It doesn't take an expert to take a modern event and make the codes magically "fit" to look like they predicted it! That's not "cryptography", that's just data massaging and confirmation bias. Statisticians do it all the time.

I guess my biggest question would be, what has all of this gotten you? Aside from subjective results (like "getting closer to god" or some similar emotional foo-foo), what objective benefits has this brought? Has it advanced any science? Cured any disease? Stopped any wars? Or most importantly, <em>helped avert any disaster</em>?

DB, I've been disassembling and breaking CP since almost before people even knew what it was, not to mention programming in pure x86 assembler. I
came to your site by accident ( that's why I'm commenting here, not because I don't know cryptography ), and saw the bible codes ( which I've also studied for years ). When you've read and understand David Kahn's books, then you can tell me about codes.

To answer your questions/statements...
"The irony here is quite thick, since it is the Bible itself that is supposed to be the “word of God,” not some arbitrary partition of it.
TRUE, it is, but why would you believe that it stops there ???

"It’s as if the Bible Code enthusiasts have read the Bible and found nothing but absurdity, so they began to read not only between the lines, but between the letters!
"We tried to read the Bible the “ordinary” way, but it made no sense."
NOT TRUE, I know the bible, not just passages from it. It makes perfect sense. Bible Code Researchers just decided to dig a little deeper into it.

"In any case, the “messages” that are discovered are very brief — single words, or a perhaps a short phrase"
FALSE, they are many short words, ALL revelent to the particular subject being searched for, and ALL of them reside
inside of a very small Matrix. Not all Matrix's pass the basic crypto tests ( like the ones that you have found ) for True Randomness.
Why don't you sumbit your findings to STATICAL SCIENCE, and see if any Mathmaticians can find fault with your methods ???
In the case of the Bible Codes, NOT 1 Mathmatician has been able to find fault with the codes.

"However, the irony grows even thicker because, like all Biblical prophecies, they are always discovered a little after the fact
TRUE, the codes can predict the future, but you must know exactly WHAT your looking for 1st. For example, if I have my code base
that was compiled in 1990, I seriously wouldn't believe that the events of 9-11 would be in it. Yet they are, and I can duplicate both
Drosnin's and Harold Gans work that has appeared far after my code was written, not to mention I can also just compare any part of it
to the Hebrew Torah, so I can verify that my code is accurate. This is one restriction of the codes. But if I have my code
base from 1990, and a major event happens tomorrow, it will be in there.

"In about an hour of programming time, I developed a small Windows application that performs this exact function — search for hidden codes in the text of the Bible. I then obtained the King James translation."
HERE LIES YOUR 1st MISTAKE. I know, I know, it's just for fun. :-)

Again, DB I'm not doubting your fine programming skills, but if you knew Cryptography, you may see things a little differently.
BTW, what is your religious background/denomination ????

You'd be having a laugh along with everyone else. Thanks for contributing to the humor of the article.

And by the way, your "codes" ( and others who say that they can find them in the yellow pages and elsewhere ) would not stand up to even the most basic cryptography challenge. The actual bible codes do. And by the way, they're not taken from an english translation, they're taken from the Hebrew torah, minus the blank spaces between words.

I'm a Luthern, and I study Cryptography. If all of you here seriously don't believe that there's a code in the bible, you need to study the History Channel's DVD's called the Bible Code I and II, and pay attention to www.torahcodes.net, and Harold Gans. Then come back and convince me that there ISN'T hidden codes in there !!! There is not 1 cryptographer that can PROVE that it's false. Enough Said.

It is amazing how easily people start being "absolutely" certain that God gave them exclusive patent rights regarding "undoubted" truths and salvation. It is sad that average Bible reader can scarcely read any English, say originating in 10th century and is not doubting that THE BOOK must have changed. As to reading and understanding arameic-well ,I don't know how many persons in the world can accomplish that.Certainly not your enlightened man of God,thundering on a TV against sinners, perverts and atheists. In reality,it doesn't matter if you follow Buddha,Jesus,or Mithra. The only thing which matters is that you don't impose your sanctimonious attitude on others and threaten them with hellfire. And codes? They can be discovered in abundance in Yellow Pages certainly.Great work Dmitry, congratulations
