what if you mix a small bucket of epoxy, and dip in your flash drives and card readers, ect. into the bucket one by one, so that there is a more even/glosy effect, and or a tail of the stuff is at the back of it.(hang them by the usb connector part somehow)

its a very good idea to put the case back on, in fact epoxy it into the case, fill one side, plop the board in, fill the other side a bit and sandwich it nice, it reinforces the connector in a way that using nothing but epoxy doesn't. much more likely to survive forces.

This is an awesome idea! However, only I wish I had discovered this a few months ago... I had my laptop up on my bed with the flash drive in, and then the next thing you know, boom! I'm asleep. Wake up, laptop lying on it's screen on the floor with the main part (keyboard, touchscreen, etc.) up in the air, the flash drive bent in onto the floor. Fix up my flash drive, take out my USB, and as soon as it came right out of the laptop, it shattered into pieces. I had to get some sticky tape and a few hours to do the job. After awhile, it was fixed. However, it tends to malfunction whilst in my laptop occasionally and well, yeah... It's still kinda really messed up.

So here is a warning;
EPOXY YOU ELECTRONIC GOODS NOW!!!

Thanks Dmitry. Did the same to my Transcend v30 USB drive. In India, we have consumer-grade epoxy called m-seal (white) which is pretty cheap. Mixed some, turned into milky white, applied on the drive whose plastic case had been removed. Applied a wet finger to smooth the surface once done. Took aroung 2 hours to set fully. Now the drive is unbrakable(tried with a hammer a bunch of times :) and waterproof (immersed in water fully at the bottom of a bucket for 15 mins). Still works perfectly. Used a permanent marker to draw some tatoo designs on the white surface. I named it 'data rock'. Thanks for the idea. Next time, I will stuff the plastic case with the epoxy and gently ply the board in. That will look more like the original at the expense of not having a surface to paint on!

I did the same thing to a [brand name deleted] digital fm radio about 15 years ago. Although it worked perfectly it was about three times heavier than before, and also looked like a block of C4. Perhaps if I kept it in its' case....

How about using Plasti-Dip? I've dipped numerous flash drives in the clear stuff, and it dries to an indestructible, transparent cocoon to show off the electronic innards. You could use the red, blue, yellow, or black product if viewing the circuitry is not wanted.

@Steve,
That's a neat idea! Although I might worry about the sparkles being conductive...

Try adding just a few craft sparkles (although don't go overboard you want more epoxy then sparkles) to the epoxy for a really neat effect (especially if the flash drive has a LED)
